Salty and Sweet Valentine's Treat

Hey, Hey!! Valentine's Day! Let's break it down. My Love and I do not recognize or celebrate that day on February 14. We have our own special day that we always referred to as our Valentine's Day and also happens to be our wedding date. I don't need February 14 to roll around for me to let him know how much I love and appreciate him. Now, with that being said, I LOVE to make Valentine's day treats for our friends and family. And, of course, the Littles get a Valentine's gift. Because - they are THE Littles, you know? :)

So, let's talk about these cute little pretzel heart treats! Vanilla Almond bark and pretzels! Salty and Sweet! I love that flavor combo! And those little pink and red hearts make them so adorable. These are quick and take very little skill. The hardest part is getting into your groove when piping the melted almond bark onto the pretzels. Let's get started!

I started with 15 pretzels and 4 blocks of the almond bark. Both came from the Aldi. I love the Aldi. Do you shop at Aldi? Let me know in the comments. I laid out the pretzels on a piece of parchment paper for easy cleanup. We love easy cleanup!

I melt my almond bark on the stovetop. I am not a fan of the microwave melting method. You do your favorite method. It will be just fine either way. The secret to melting the bark on the stovetop is LOW heat and keep it MOVING! I take a spatula and keep pushing those blocks around every 30-40 seconds or so as it is starting to melt.

As it begins to melt more evenly, keep an eye on it and keep stirring. It is just that simple. You will end up with smooth and creamy concoction.

I have piping bags and tips and all that stuff. Did you know that I MIGHT be a #kitchengadgetaddict ? Lol. Well, I am. :) Today, I decided to use the old zipper seal bag method. I put it in a short plastic cup (I didn't melt much bark, so I didn't need a large cup. Just keep that in mind when you are making these.)

I spooned the melted bark into the bag and gathered it tightly just above where the filling stopped. Give it a twisty twist. Snip off a teeny tiny corner of the bag to make a "spout" of sorts. Start small. If you need a bigger "spout", you can always cut a little more off. If you cut too much the first time - you might have to pour that over into another bag (that's the voice of experience talking). Ok. Deep breath and away we go! Well, y'all know that I am perfectly imperfect and so are these. That first one got a little out of hand but I got it "together" pretty much for the rest of them.

Since I wasn't making a bunch of these this time, I filled the pretzels and then put on my cute little heart candies. If you have a helper, you could double team the process. I do suggest doing smaller batches, it is just easier to get it all assembled before the bark hardens on you. Place whatever decorations you want to use on the hearts and let them cool and harden up.

They will peel right off that parchment paper. Easy Peasy! Look how precious they look on a plate with some extra sprinkles! I love them!

I hope you decide to give these little cuties a try. When you do, please tag me on social media - @a_dash_of_southern_grit #adashofsoutherngrit. You can find me on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
