Quick Caramel Frosting

Hey, Y'all! Thanks for stopping by! Can I offer you a piece of this delicious yellow cake with caramel frosting? OH MY GOODNESS!!! Y'all!! Let's talk about where I got this recipe. Many years ago, the Telephone Pioneers of America used to publish cookbooks that were full of recipes from the different members of the chapters. My Mama had Volume I and Volume II. Somehow through the years, I was fortunate to get posession of Volume II and I will never let it go. The inside cover says this cookbook had Copyright 1986. It has been very well used over the years as you can see below.

Do you have a favorite cookbook? Please tell me about it. I know that we can access all the recipes on the good old internet and I do use that a lot. But somedays, Y'all, there is just something special about pulling out your favorite cookbook and thumbing through the pages looking for inspiration. Well, the inspiration for this delectable caramel frosting comes on page 343.

I love all things caramel! ALL THE THINGS! Do you? If so, give this recipe a try! I'm fixin to show you how.

First, let's get our cast of characters together. Here's the list:

2/3 cup butter

1 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar

½ cup whole milk

1 lb. box powdered sugar (3.75 cups equals 1 lb. box)

1 tsp. vanilla extract

Oh, yeah! A cake! You really should have a cake but I won't tell if you just wanna make this like fudge and eat it. It will be our little secret! I made a yellow cake mix - the butter recipe, of course.

Now back to the frosting. Here's what you do. Melt butter in fairly large pot. Add brown sugar and milk. Bring to a boil while stirring constantly. Boil gently for 5 minutes.

Remove from the stove and let it cool for 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, sift your powdered sugar. After the cooling period, blend in the vanilla extract. Add the powdered sugar a little at a time and blend it with your electric mixer. It will seem like you aren’t gonna be able to incorporate all that sugar – keep going! It will happen.

You will end up with smooth, luscious caramel frosting. Yum-o-licious, Y'all.

Now take that warm caramel frosting and drizzle or POUR it on your cake if you made a Bundt cake like I do. If you made a layer cake - frost that bad boy up. Let the frosting set up completely and dig in. It is soooooooo good, Y'all!

I hope you have enjoyed this recipe. I am glad you're here. If you have friend or family that share my caramel addiction, please share this with them. Thanks for stopping by!
