Hey, y'all! I have been sewing all my life and my little Mama had a weakness for table runners - seems she passed that on to me. I particularly love runners that are holiday themed. This heart table runner comes together super easy and quickly. Honestly, the most time consuming step is "punching" out the small details in the felt hearts.
Y'all, I ain't gonna lie, this was a wee bit aggravating but OH SO WORTH it in the end.
Ok, let's get this party started. Measure your table and decide how many of the felt hearts you will need. I needed 5 for the table I am using it on. Buy a couple of extra to put up with your decorations, in case a heart gets damaged or you get a longer table. You may not be able to find them next year. Pick a coordinating ribbon to tie the hearts together. Check your ribbon stash - you may already have something on hand. That and some scissors and possibly a skewer or something to use as a "punch" - that's all you need.
I had both of these in my stash. I thought I would prefer the solid white but it turns out that i loved the black heart print ribbon. As I mentioned above, prep your hearts by removing all the felt pieces that weren't completely cut out when they were produced. This gives you the fancy look.
Pick your tool I used the pointy end of craft scissors for part of the work and a wooden skewer for the rest.
When your hearts are all prepped and you have chosen your ribbon (or yarn or embroidery floss or jute or whatever suits you), place your hearts out on your work surface. Play around with them to see how you like them placed. I decided to alternate mine with the points going opposite directions. However you like them is perfect. Keep in mind that you will need to decide where you are going to join your hearts, that could have some bearing on your placement. Now, cut your ribbon. I decided on 16 inches. Cut your first piece a little long so that you can play around with tying your bow and make the loops and tails as long as you prefer
them. I decided to knot my hearts together and have short tails. There is no wrong way. Whatever suits your fancy.
Continue connecting all your hearts. This part goes very quickly. Take a step back and admire your work. Tweak it if you want to. Place it on your table and snap a picture and tag me when you post it! I can't wait to see yours! Here's my runner with 4 hearts - just to give you an idea of what it looks like with an even number.
And here is the finished product. Super cute, right? Y'all, keep an open mind. We could make these with felt Easter eggs, shamrocks, balloon shapes - literally, any shape or theme. If you can't find what you need, get some felt or heavy fabric and cut your shapes out. Use this for inspiration and let your imagination go wild.
